About Camp Casey, South Korea - U.S. Army InstallationAbout Camp Casey, South Korea - U.S. Army InstallationCamp Casey is a U.S. military base in Dongducheon South Korea about 40 miles north of Seoul, South Korea very much near the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Camp Casey spans 3,500 acres and is about a 20-minute drive to the DMZ. Service members and OCONUS DoD Civilian employees are further advised not to send monetary deposits for housing prior to contacting the HSO.SchoolsCamp Casey is home to the first DoDDS school in Area I of South Korea. The Kindergarten through eighth-grade school also offers a pre-kindergarten program called Sure Start to the children of eligible sponsors. Sponsors who are command sponsored and stationed at USAG-Casey/Dongducheon, DoDEA requires students in grades K-8 attend the USAG-Casey School.The appr oximately $5M, 30,000 square-foot renovation provides state-of-the-art education facilities for military families living in Area I. Features include modern classrooms with interactive white-boards, a 21 computer-to-student ratio, cutting-edge computer and science labs, large information center, and ample parking for employees and visitors.Grades 9-12 will not be in the Seoul School Complex commuting area. Dependents will remain eligible for the non-DoDDS program. (International Schools). Sponsors who desire to enroll their students at Seoul American High School will have access as space-available tuition free. Busing from USAG Camp Casey will be provided on a space available basis.The Warrior University is a new educational initiative designed to help 2nd Infantry Division Soldiers pursue higher learning and earn college degrees, and welches launched January 15, 2010. The program relieves Soldiers from other duties between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays to attend college c lasses. All tafelgeschirrmembers, family members and Defense Department civilians assigned to the Republic of Korea are encouraged to take advantage of the Army Continuing Education System (ACES).Child CareA Child Development Center on CampCasey is a full-day care for children 4 weeks thru Kindergarten, Part Day Programs Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten before/after-school Programs. Hourly care will also be available.Currently, under construction and should be available fall 2010. School age child care will be available at Red Cloud and Casey enclave. The Youth Center, for 6th grade-12th grade, will be located on Casey enclave. In the Summer of 2010, CYS Services will offer full day Camp Adventure for children in 1st thru 5th grades on Red Cloud and Casey.Medical / DentalSoldiers assigned to Area I are provided basic medical services through Troop Medical Clinics located at Camp Red Cloud, Camp Casey and Camp Stanley or one of the many supporting Aid Stations throughout the area. H igher level care is referred to the 121st General Hospital which is located in Yongsan. Soldiers on assignment orders to Area I are encouraged not to bring family members with them, since support services (including medical) are not geared to meet their needs.There are three Army dental clinics in Area I of the Republic of Korea one clinic each at CP Casey, CP Red Cloud, and CP Stanley. Priority of care is to active duty service members and focused on meeting the mandated dental readiness mission.Things to DoThe island of Korea is relatively small and highly populated but there are many things to do and enjoy while experiencing a culture of the Korean people. The cities offer public transportation, shopping, entertainment and the diverse landscape offers summer beaches, winter skiing mountains and valleys to site see.
